Sin Taung Community Home

Sin Taung

The community of Sin Taung, surrounded by scenic forests and beautiful mountains, is located on the railway line between Kalaw and Shwe Nyaung (gateway to Inle Lake) in Shan State. It is here that you can find the Sin Taung Community home, a community based tourism project funded jointly by Myanmar Hill Lodge and the UK Department for International Development. The project is organized and managed by the local community in Sin Taung and provides an opportunity for the community to directly benefit from the tourism boom in Shan State.

The project consists of a main building (accommodating up to 16 people), kitchen, and dining hall and bathroom facilities. The facilities are run by four staff members, all of whom have received training on their respective roles. All food is sourced from the area and local farms. When staying at the community home, visitors can enjoy mingling with the locals, sampling various local foods and taking walks to the primary forests surrounding the community.

Visitors can also visit local farmers growing ginger and turmeric, famous produce of the Sin Taung community. Those who wish to stay longer can embark on longer hikes to lakes and pristine forests in the vicinity of Sin Taung. Trekkers can also continue their journeys from Sin Taung to other destinations including Kalaw and Inle Lake.
