Paradise Beaches of the Dawei Peninsula

Dawei Beach

Dawei is the capital of Tanintharyi Region, located 600km from Yangon in south-eastern Myanmar. This sleepy provincial town and its surroundings remain largely unexplored by foreigners. But this all soon to change as word is beginning to spread about the stunning beaches found along the coast, west of Dawei.

Just 70km south of the city, in the Dawei Peninsula, pristine beaches await those willing to get off the beaten path and explore. Five major beaches are to be found here, all offering crystal clear waters and spectacular white sands. The beaches remain almost entirely untouched and licensed accommodation is to be found on only one of them in the form of a few modest bungalows.

But as word spreads of this paradise and the number of independent visitors grows, tourism development will be sure to follow and quick. Many of the prime spots along the coast have already been bought up by developers but work has not started on any major resorts yet. Infrastructure in the area is also showing signs of improvement with work being done on the road connecting Dawei and the peninsula.

But for now, the beaches of Dawei peninsula remain an untouched paradise, ready to reward those who make the journey to this remote part of Myanmar.

How to Get There: Dawei can be reached by 14 hour bus journey from Yangon. Myanmar Airways and Apex Airline fly daily (1 hour direct) from Yangon, Air KBZ seasonally (Oct-Apr). To reach the Peninsula, hire a car in Dawei or take a public van which drop passengers off at villages on the peninsula. Experienced motorbike drivers can consider renting scooters.
