DAY 2: YANGON OFF THE BEATEN TRAILS

Today you will visit some off the beaten trails attractions and get an insight to contemporary Myanmar life and culture. We start from your hotel and travel to Yangon old quarter, built during the British colonial era. Many charming historical buildings are still located here.

During our stroll through bustling market streets full of merchants and food stalls, we visit a local pharmacy and learn about Myanmar traditional medicine, stop for a tea and snack in the fashion of locals, and enjoy the sights and sounds of Yangon.

Passing one of Asia’s architectural landmarks, the elegant Strand Hotel we proceed to Pansondan Jetty and cross Yangon river to Dala village, a striking contrast to Yangon city with its limited urban development and village feel.

Sit back and relax on our tour by Trishaw, a three-wheeled bicycle taxi that maneuvers us through small lanes, market streets and friendly village neighborhoods. We observe the daily activities of Burmese locals and get a feel for the authentic rural lifestyle of Myanmar. We make a stop in a pagoda and finish the trishaw tour with local refreshments and people watching by the jetty before making our way back to Yangon.

After lunch break in the afternoon we board circle line train for approx. 30 min ride getting off at SCOTT’s (Bogyoke) market, where hundreds of gemstone, handicrafts, art, clothes and food stores are tucked in a maze of color. Late afternoon we will finish the day by revitalizing foot massage before taking returning back to hotel.

(Please note that the market is closed on Mondays and on public holidays)
