This tour is for culture and architecture lovers and who are interested in the old and modern Myanmar. Our seven-day tour covers the three most important cities in Myanmar: Yangon, Naypyidaw, and Mandalay.

The journey begins in the former capital of Myanmar, Yangon (Rangoon). This historically important city has many magnificent sights to see. A walking tour in the colonial quarter of the city will give you a good picture of the old times under British rule. Yangon is known for the highest number of colonial buildings in Asia. You will see some very impressive buildings like Strand hotel, former high court building etc. Bustling and colorful markets will give you an impression about the way of local living. One of the biggest high light is the 99 meters tall Shwedagon Pagoda with its gold leaf and diamond decorations. Just after sunset, you can see thousands of bats flying out of its lairs.

From Yangon, we continue to Naypyidaw, the fastest growing capital in the world. This mystical new capital city which is definitely worth visiting. Naypyidaw is full of weird facts, for example, all the roofs of apartment buildings are color-coded by the jobs of their residents. Still, partially under construction, Naypyidaw is still a show of strength from the central government.

Last stop of this capital tour is Mandalay, the center and cradle of Burmese culture. This former capital of the last Burmese kingdom and its surroundings are full of fascinating sights. You will see all the cultural and historical High lights of Mandalay. Our journey will take us also to the ancient kingdoms of Ava, Sagaing, and Amarapura, all situated nearby Mandalay. One of the most magical moments in Myanmar is sunset by worlds longest teak wood bridge Ubein Bridge.

Upon arrival to the Yangon international airport with afternoon or evening flight, you will be welcomed by Discovery DMC representative and transferred to your hotel.

This morning we embark on a journey to explore Yangon highlights. Starting from the colonial-style city center and one of the landmarks Sule Paya stupa – built over 2,000 years ago and is the focal point of numerous historical events in the city.

We continue on foot to the quaint Yangon old quarter, built during the British colonial era. Many charming historical buildings are still located here.

During our stroll through bustling market streets full of merchants and food stalls, we visit a local pharmacy and learn about Myanmar traditional medicine, stop for a tea and snack in the fashion of locals, and enjoy the sights and sounds of Yangon.

We continue to one of Asia’s architectural landmarks, the elegant Strand Hotel built by the Sarkies brothers. Inside, we visit the river art gallery, where the works of some of the most famous and skilled Burmese artists are on display fitting of the grand surroundings.

We continue to bustling Bogyoke (Scotts) market, where hundreds of gemstone, handicrafts, art, clothes and food stores are tucked in a maze of color.

(Please note that the market is closed on Mondays and on public holidays)

After lunch to your own account. We continue to Chauk That Gyi pagoda to view its magnificent reclining Buddha and Karaweik Hall to marvel at the uniquely decorated “hamsa-bird-shaped” floating barge on Kandawgyi (Royal) lake.

We complete the day with a visit to one of the world’s most spectacular monuments, the Shwedagon Pagoda, a gold-covered bell dome structure that dominates the city’s skyline. Legends state that the sacred hairs of the Buddha are enshrined here. The Shwedagon is an iconic symbol of the country, a sight not to be missed.

After breakfast, you will be picked up by your guide and transferred to Yangon bus terminal. Travel 5hr by air-conditioned intercity bus to the new administrative capital of Myanmar, Naypyidaw. Naypyidaw translated “the Royal City” is the fastest growing capital in the world with the population estimated to be around 1,3 million.

Its birth date can be considered 5th November 2005 when government truck convoys started moving offices to the new capital city after short notice announcement of a new capital. Naypyidaw is situated 320km north of Yangon halfway between Yangon and Mandalay.

Most inhabitants of the city are civil servants and their families. The area has gone through impressive changes from dry wasteland to green landscaped and manicured oasis with newly developed facilities and housing.

Upon arrival to Naypyidaw, you will be welcomed by Discovery DMC local guide and driver.

This afternoon sightseeing includes photo stop by the parliament house and a huge parade road leading to it. We will also visit water fountain garden and the Uppasanti Stupa.

After breakfast, you will receive a car transfer to Naypyidaw bus terminal and take a 5-hour air-con bus ride to last royal capital of Myanmar, Mandalay. On arrival to Mandalay, our car driver will be waiting for you and we will proceed with afternoon sightseeing.

We visit the Golden Palace Monastery, the only surviving Royal Palace building in Mandalay. You get a glimpse of the original style and architecture of the Myanmar royals. Lastly, a visit to the Kuthodaw Pagoda, a compound housing Buddha’s teachings carved in the sacred Pali script on stone slabs. Its regarded as the world’s largest book in terms of surface area.

We end our day with amazing sunset panoramic views over the city skyline on Mandalay Hill, the highest point of the city.

After breakfast at the hotel, we enjoy a morning stroll through the lively Zegyo market in the heart of the city to experience more authentic local life in Mandalay. We continue to the Artisan quarters, where some of the oldest craftsmanship is showcased dating back to last, kingdom of Myanmar.

We observe the process of pounding gold leaf, detailing teak wood carvings and embroidering Myanmar tapestry. We also see how bronze and marble Buddha statues are carved, cast and molded.

Next, we proceed to the highlights of Mandalay. First, we visit sacred Mahamuni Pagoda, housing one of the most significant Buddha images in the country. It is covered in several tons of gold leaf and is the crown prize in long past wars between competing Myanmar kingdoms.

In the afternoon we embark 1-hour cruise across the mighty Ayeyarwaddy River (Irrawaddy) to the quaint village of Mingun. Mingun is known for a massive unfinished pagoda that was dramatically cracked in half by an earthquake in the 1800s; another interesting site is its bronze bell, believed to be largest, unbroken bronze bell in the world.

Late afternoon we return to Mandalay by boat and transfer back to the hotel to relax for the rest of the day.

After breakfast at the hotel, we embark on a journey to the Ancient Kingdoms of Myanmar near Mandalay. We transfer 15km to AVA (Inwa), the ancient capital of the Shan and Burmese Kingdoms for over four centuries. We cross over the Myint Nge River by ferry and explore the small roads of Ava by horse cart.

We visit the Bagaya teak Monastery, over three hundred years old yet well preserved and still in use by local monks; the Nanmyin watch tower, the last standing structure of the Ava dynasty palace compound also known as the “Leaning Tower of Ava”; and the Maha Aungmye Bonzan Monastery building with its graceful curves and archways.

We continue to the Ancient kingdom of Sagaing, located across the mighty Ayeyarwaddy River. From the Sagaing hills, we enjoy magnificent views overlooking the river and hill side covered with countless pagodas. We visit a monastery in Sagaing to learn about the life of Buddhist devotees and continue to well-known Silversmith village near Sagaing.

From Sagaing we continue to another beautiful ancient capital city, Amarapura, famous for its weaving and textile industries. There, we visit a cottage industry workshop to learn how Myanmar longyis and traditional fabrics are constructed.

We continue to the Ubein bridge, a simple yet strong teak structure that spans 1,2km over Taungtaman Lake. Ubein is concidered to be the longest wooden bridge in the world. The bridge silhouetted by the setting sun is one of the most magical experiences in Myanmar and a photographer’s dream.
