Entry by air
Myanmar has 3 international airports for the time being in Yangon, Mandalay and Naypyitaw where most international travelers enter the country. Immigration is available at all these airports.
Discovery DMC has arranged immigration for private aircrafts in Bagan and Heho. The main limitation in Myanmar is the length of runways which is why most air-crafts used here a smaller ATR 42 or 72 series.

Myanmar border crossings with Thailand
Mae Sai – Tachileik border crossing – entry with e-visa possible since 1st Sep 2016
This is one of the most popular visa run borders of Thailand. Very few people however venture deeper to Myanmar beyond Tachileik town. Myanmar officials have been allowing visitors including foreigners from this border to enter Myanmar without visa up to Kyaing Tong surroundings when returning back to Thailand the same way. You may be requested to leave passport at the border check post.
Those who plan to travel further in Myanmar are required to have visa arranged before arriving to Myanmar.
From Myanmar: Driving from Kyaing Tong to Tachileik or flight to Tachileik from Heho or Mandalay.
From Thailand: It is around 3hrs drive from Chiangmai to reach the border. Drive from Chiangrai takes approx. 1,5hrs. If you come from Laos Huay Xai – Chiang Khong border crossing private transfers take around 1hr.
Myawaddy – Mae Sot border crossing – entry with e-visa possible since 1st Sep 2016
Another main border crossing between Thailand and Myanmar. Small river marks the border here between Thailand and Myanmar. Locals cross the border over bridge and on small boats less officially. Many Burmese are working on Thailand side and commute daily.
Mae Sai has more and much better accommodation choices if you are planning to spend a night or two here.
Myawaddy to Hpa-An and Mawlamyine road has been improved recently and driving time is now approx. 4-5hrs compared to previous 7hrs. There is no more one way days for the traffic.
Mae Sot has several daily flights to Bangkok.
Phu Nam Ron – Htee Khee border crossing
Opened only couple years ago. Dawei is the nearest town on Myanmar side. You will need pre-arranged visa to enter Myanmar here. Overland transport can be arranged here between Dawei and Kanchanaburi.
Ranong – Kawthaung (Victoria Point) border crossing – entry with e-visa possible since 1st Sep 2016
This is the main gateway to visit the Mergui Archipelago islands. Thailand side of the border crossing is well hidden behind a petrol station in warehouse looking building which will be most likely upgraded soon. After stamping out of Thailand you will need to board long tail boat and pass Thai army check post and cross wide river mouth to Kawthaung.
From Thailand: Ranong is the access point and connected and best reached by air from Bangkok or driving from Phuket.

Myanmar border crossings with Laos
New border bridge by the Mekong river in eastern Shan state has been built between Myanmar and Laos. At the time of writing it was not open to any crossings and schedule to open was not clear.
Myanmar border crossings with China
Muse – Ruili border crossing is the main gateway for goods transport between Myanmar and China. Pre-arranged border permits are required for travelers to enter or exit Myanmar through this border. Chinese visa need to applied in advance. Border permits are available to travelers who book a tour with Discovery Dmc.
Myanmar border crossings with India
Moreh – Tamu border crossing connects India and Myanmar. The nearest larger cities are Kalaymyo in Sagaing division on Myanmar side few hours drive away from border and Imphal in Manipur state of India.
If you arrive to Myanmar from India or vice versa make sure to have required visas ready in your passport. They are not available at the border and it is far to go to arrange.
Myanmar border crossings with Bangladesh
There is no official border post between Myanmar and Bangladesh. Only locals from both sides can cross the border for daily trading.
