Why North Myanmar
Last untouched jungles, alpine forests, snow capped Himalayan mountains, wild rivers, wildlife sanctuaries and sparsely populated wildernesses await adventurers in the Northern Myanmar. Putao is accessible by air and serves as a base camp for expeditions and treks to the northern most Myanmar territory peaks including South East Asia’s highest mountain Mt Hkakaborazi 5887m.

Myitkyina capital of Kachin state is known for its annual Manao festival held in January. South of Myitkyina located Bhamo is a popular access point for cruises on the Ayeyarwaddy (Irrawaddy) river that visit some of the off the beaten trails destinations in Myanmar such Katha where George Orwell was posted during his tenure in Burma.
Some other points of interest in the Northern Myanmar are recently opened for tourism the Ruby town of Mogok, known for producing some highest quality “pigeon blood” rubies in the world. For trekking enthusiasts previous Shan kingdom, Hsipaw and its surroundings in the Northern Shan State offers pleasant village treks and home stays and some history of Shan.
