Advisors who used to ask in general terms about “five-star Samui” now ask, very specifically, for the Four Seasons Koh Samui — which is the show’s hotel — or for the Anantara Bophut Koh Samui Resort, where the lobby scenes were filmed. Both have been booked solid through the high-season weekends since approximately the third episode aired.

These are real, working hotels with deep operational records. The trip we then build for an advisor’s client typically starts there and travels further.

This piece is a working map of the properties and places Mike White’s location scouts found across Thailand, and of how Discovery’s travel experts take a White-Lotus-shaped brief and turn it into a trip the client will remember in their own terms. It is written for advisors whose clients have booked the show’s hotels, or who are choosing between them, or whose clients want the Thailand the show portrays without the booking compression that came with it.

Where the show filmed

Season three filmed across three main bases: Bangkok, Koh Samui, and Phuket, with secondary work in Koh Phangan and Phang Nga. The boat-arrival sequence that opens the season was shot off Ya Nui Beach in Phuket, intercut with aerial work over Mu Ko Ang Thong National Marine Park — the 42-island archipelago an hour off Samui’s west coast.

Bangkok. The hotel is the Mandarin Oriental. The Bamboo Bar — which appears, intact and unrenamed, in the show — has been part of the city’s bar conversation since 1953. Wat Paknam Phasi Charoen, the temple with the eighty-metre Buddha and the painted dome in Thonburi, anchors the Bangkok episodes; Wat Pho appears later. The Chao Phraya river-boat scene is shot at standard river-cruise altitude — the working river that any first-time visitor sees.

Koh Samui. The fictional White Lotus resort is, in practice, a composite of four properties. The Four Seasons Koh Samui — the show’s anchor — covers the most-recognisable beach scenes and Belinda’s path through most of the season. The Anantara Bophut Koh Samui Resort, designed by Bill Bensley on a former coconut plantation on Bophut Beach, covers the lobby, the security station, the tree-lined entrance, and the jewellery-shop scene that opens the third episode. The Anantara Lawana Koh Samui Resort in Chaweng contributes the show’s bar — its Singing Bird Lounge, perched in a 120-year-old tree, with treehouse views over the bay. Cape Fahn Hotel on its private island off Choeng Mon, and Am Samui Resort Taling Ngam on the quieter southwest coast, fill in further scenes. Greg and Chloe’s hillside house is Villa Jacinta at Samujana, also in Choeng Mon, with Villa Amaravida in Phuket used for the second-location interiors.

Phuket. Belinda’s spa and the wellness arc that runs through Phuket were filmed at Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas on the northern coast — the open-air spa suites set over a lagoon. The dinner scenes — the long, lacquered tables of episode six — were shot at Ta Khai, the seafood restaurant at Rosewood Phuket. Cape Panwa contributes Panwa House, the Sino-Portuguese white mansion that appears in Victoria’s dream as a beach house in North Carolina.

That is the trip the show captured on film. It is a credible Thailand — real properties, real chefs, working hotels with deep operational histories. The brief most senior advisors are then asked to design is a Thailand that uses that material as the entry point and travels into territory the show, for very good production reasons, could not.

Where we take the brief from there

The map below is region by region. None of it argues against the show’s choices. All of it is what our Thailand experts add to extend, deepen, or complete the trip.

The Samui-shaped brief

For the client who wants the Samui look — clear water, lush hillsides, the slow island rhythm of the show — the Four Seasons and the two Anantaras remain among the strongest hotels on the island. They are also, in 2026, the most-booked. For the client who wants the same geography with more space around them, we extend the trip eastward to Koh Kood, in the Gulf of Thailand near the Cambodian border. Two hours by speedboat from the mainland, four hours total from Bangkok by the public route — or just over an hour door-to-door using the resort’s own airstrip on Koh Mai Si, the small adjacent island where Kiri Private Reserve (the property formerly known as Soneva Kiri) operates an 850-metre runway. An eight-seater Cessna Grand Caravan flies guests from Suvarnabhumi to the airstrip; a five-minute speedboat finishes the journey. That access detail is the differentiator that decides which Koh Kood client routes where. Six Senses Yao Noi, across the bay on the Phang Nga side, sits in the same waters as the Phuket five-stars and operates at a third of the visitor density — twenty minutes by speedboat from Phuket Airport.

For the brief that asks for real privacy — couples on a celebratory trip, families with teenagers, small groups who want the house to themselves — Phuket’s strongest product is rarely a hotel. The island has between three and four hundred professionally-run private villas in the three- to seven-bedroom range, with permanent staff, dedicated chefs working from the client’s brief in advance rather than a daily menu, infinity pools facing west, and the kind of separation a hotel cannot deliver at any price. For couples who want still more than that, the Phang Nga Bay charter-yacht fleet is the strongest in Thailand — three to seven nights with the yacht as the accommodation and island-hopping as the programme. The math, fully loaded, is usually the same as a comparable hotel-suite stack. The product is different. Capella Bangkok, a kilometre further south on the same river, is the quieter contemporary alternative for the river-and-view brief. The Sukhothai, in Sathorn, is the canonical 1990s Bangkok hotel running at full 2020s maturity. Aman Nai Lert opened in 2025 with 52 suites starting at 94 square metres, set inside the seven-acre Nai Lert Park on Wireless Road — Bangkok’s most central green space and the city’s most photographed wellness destination since the opening.

Where our Bangkok experts now point the brief, when the client wants Bangkok to be a real story rather than a checklist, is The Siam. North of the main hotel cluster, on three acres of Chao Phraya riverfront in historic Dusit, the property is Bill Bensley’s design for the Sukosol family — Krissada Sukosol Clapp built it on land that has been in the family for generations. Thirty-nine suites and the first pool villas in Bangkok hold roughly twenty-five thousand Sukosol family antiques between them. The Deco Bar, with vintage brass instruments mounted above the counter and Art Deco theatre throughout, is one of the most striking bars in the city and one most show-prompted clients will never have heard of. Chon, the signature Thai restaurant, occupies three century-old teakwood houses lifted from OSS agent Connie Mangksau’s compound — her guest list once ran to Roger Moore, Jackie Kennedy, Henry Ford. The Opium Spa, dropped below ground level in a Turkish-hammam shell, can be cleared for private use. The whole property buys out for clients who want it.
