Hokkaido and the northern Tohoku peaks now usually land in the second half of October. Central Honshu around Karuizawa and the Japanese Alps peak in early to mid-November. Kyoto and Tokyo close out the season in the last week of November through to the first week of December. The Kyoto temples now peak roughly one week later than they did in 2019, and a client booking on the old calendar will arrive a week early.

Two operational realities are running ahead of advisor briefs this year.

First, the ryokans. Hoshinoya Karuizawa is usually fully booked for the November weekends by the end of August; the same is true at Hoshinoya Kyoto, where the November lock-in often closes in late July. Asaba in Shuzenji, Beniya Mukayu in Kaga, and Tawaraya in Kyoto run essentially full from mid-October to mid-December every year and have done for as long as we have worked with them.
