Weather and access.<\/b> Bohol is the most effortless of all: the Bohol-Panglao International Airport takes direct flights, and Amorita lies ten minutes from the terminal \u2014 no boats, no long transfers. Its dry season runs roughly late November to May, and it sits a little outside the worst of the typhoon track. Siargao’s arrival is longer, though its dry season runs just as wide, from March to November.<\/span><\/p>\n

Where Siargao wins: atmosphere, surf, the romance of a smaller island. Where Bohol wins: family variety, gentle swimming, value and the easiest access in the country. <\/span><\/i>Choose Bohol<\/i><\/b> for a multi-generational trip that must keep everyone happy; <\/span><\/i>choose Siargao<\/i><\/b> for travellers who want to do gloriously little, with style.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Siargao vs El Nido villas<\/span><\/h3>\n

If Siargao is about the horizon, <\/span>El Nido<\/span><\/a> is about the theatre of towering limestone \u2014 villas set among the karst cliffs and hidden lagoons of Bacuit Bay, several of them on private islands reached only by boat.<\/span><\/p>\n

The top villas.<\/b> This is the Philippines’ private-island tier, and Siargao does not yet match it. Best of all, each can be reached by a scenic one-hour private seaplane flight that sets down right at the resort \u2014 an arrival Siargao cannot rival. Against these, Nay Palad holds its own for exclusivity and craft, but the island has nothing on its own private cay.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ambience.<\/b> El Nido is drama and spectacle, days built around island-hopping through some of Asia’s most cinematic seascapes. Siargao is rhythm and warmth, days built around the surf and the village.<\/span><\/p>\n

Weather and access.<\/b> El Nido is easier to reach than its reputation suggests: regular flights now connect Manila, Cebu and Coron with Lio Airport just outside El Nido town, from where it is a short transfer and a boat out to the island resorts (Puerto Princesa, a five-to-six-hour drive south, remains the overland alternative). Its dry season runs December to May, at its finest from February into early April. Siargao asks for a similar hop via Cebu or Manila, but once landed you simply settle in \u2014 no island crossing required.<\/span><\/p>\n

Where El Nido wins: sheer drama, exclusivity and a true private-island experience. <\/span><\/i>Choose El Nido<\/i><\/b> for a honeymoon built on spectacle and seclusion; <\/span><\/i>choose Siargao<\/i><\/b> for one built on warmth, rhythm and the wave.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Siargao vs Coron villas<\/span><\/h3>\n

Coron<\/span><\/a> shares El Nido’s limestone grandeur but keeps more of it to itself \u2014 quieter, more rugged, and beloved of divers for the ghostly wartime wrecks in its waters and the mirror-clear Kayangan Lake above them.<\/span><\/p>\n

The top villas.<\/b> Coron’s luxury hides on private peninsulas and islands. <\/span>Two Seasons Coron Island Resort<\/span><\/a> spreads 46 bungalows and casitas across a Bulalacao Island peninsula \u2014 the Island-Tip Bungalows come with private pools \u2014 from roughly US$334 to US$459 a night, while Discovery Coron occupies its own island of Dimakya. These are nature-led hideaways rather than design statements; Siargao’s boutiques, Kalinaw and Nay Palad among them, out-style them, if in a busier corner of the country.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ambience.<\/b> Coron is elemental and adventurous \u2014 diving, kayaking, dramatic bays and true quiet. Siargao is sociable and warm, with a village to wander home through.<\/span><\/p>\n

Weather and access.<\/b> Coron is reached via Busuanga Airport. One thing worth knowing: Coron town and Busuanga \u2014 the main island, where most hotels sit \u2014 are largely not on the water or a beach at all; the beaches, lagoons and reefs are out among the surrounding islets. The finest resorts therefore occupy their own private cays and peninsulas, reached by a thirty-to-forty-five-minute road transfer and then a boat crossing. Its dry season runs November to May, at its best from December to March. The two islands in fact make natural companions rather than rivals \u2014 one for the surf and the social warmth, the other for the underwater world \u2014 and we often pair them across a single Philippine journey.<\/span><\/p>\n

Where Siargao wins: surf, design, sociable warmth and simpler arrival. When to go: the full year on Siargao<\/span><\/h2>\n

The often-quoted “best months” make Siargao’s window sound narrower than it is. In truth the island is a year-round destination, and each season has its own character.<\/span><\/p>\n

March to May \u2014 calm, sunny, easy.<\/b> The most forgiving time to visit: warm, largely dry, with gentle seas made for swimming, snorkelling and island-hopping, and small, beginner-friendly waves. This is our first choice for honeymooners and non-surfers.<\/span><\/p>\n

June to August \u2014 green and quiet.<\/b> The dry stretch continues, and June and July are among the least rainy months of all. Fewer travellers, lush landscapes and softer rates; the surf begins to build toward the end. A quietly excellent time for those who value having the island to themselves.<\/span><\/p>\n

September to November \u2014 surf season.<\/b> The swell arrives and Cloud 9 comes into its own, drawing serious surfers from around the world. The island is at its liveliest, the bars and eateries busiest, and the waves best left to intermediate and advanced riders. Sunshine still dominates, with the occasional passing shower.<\/span><\/p>\n

December to February \u2014 the wet spell.<\/b> Siargao’s genuinely rainy months, January the wettest of them, with heavier downpours and a real, if small, risk of tropical storms (it was mid-December when Odette struck in 2021). It is also cooler, greener and cheapest, and the rain often comes in bursts rather than settling in for days \u2014 but for a first visit, we would steer clients to the drier half of the year.<\/span><\/p>\n

In short, any time from March to November makes for a rewarding trip; the choice within that is really between calm-sea serenity and world-class surf.<\/span><\/p>\n
