Wild and beautiful Myanmar Himalaya is one of the last untouched wildernesses of Southeast Asia. It is truly a wonderland for nature lovers and adventurers.
Whether you are looking for the black orchid, sightings of Red Panda or climbing a peak you will fly in to Putao town which is a cluster of run down huts and houses and a few streets.
There are daily flights to Putao from Yangon, Mandalay and Myitkyina.
Discovery Dmc is specialist in Myanmar Himalaya and organises cultural journeys where you will meet and spend time with Lisu and Rawang communities.
We also organise multi-day walking and trekking tours and summit expeditions.
In 4-days you can visit Putao Valley to get a feel of the region. You can combine cultural visits with easy cycling and rafting.
In 7-days or more you can trek to the Last Village (Zia Dum) or Naung Mong and sleep in local home stays.
In 10-14days you can climb a trekking peak. Phongun Razi 3600m is the easiest and most popular. Our own favourite is Phonyin Razi 4200m which offers fabulous views and more varied trek. Phangram Razi 4300m with longer approach trek along river valley offers real expedition feel.
Where to stay in Putao:
$$$ – Malikha Lodge – a few km out of Putao by the Malikha River and bamboo groves. It was designed by Aman group architect 15 years ago.
$$ – Putao Trekking House – Cozy resort stones throw and short walk away from Putao market and centre. Trekking house has nice 2 storey buildings with guest rooms and cool lobby and dining room with fireplace where to hang out in the evening.
$$ Putao Hotel – has more opulent main building, but less soul. Quality of rooms vary greatly depending on category.
