A Remote Sanctuary of Rare Wildlife, Pristine Rainforest & Exclusive Jungle Adventures

TABIN WILDLIFE RESERVE Travel Guide

Tabin Wildlife Reserve, tucked away in the heart of Sabah, is a sanctuary of rare species, ancient rainforest, and pristine wilderness. Spanning over 120,000 hectares, this remote haven is one of Malaysia’s largest protected areas, home to endangered animals like Bornean pygmy elephants, orangutans, and clouded leopards. Luxury travelers seeking authentic, low-impact adventure will find private guided safaris, elegant eco-lodges, and curated jungle experiences that reveal the reserve’s extraordinary biodiversity. From early morning wildlife drives to soothing mud volcano soaks and sunset river walks, Tabin offers an exclusive journey into the wild heart of Borneo, where nature’s drama unfolds in serene, untouched beauty.

Tabin Wildlife Reserve is where Borneo’s wild soul comes alive — a vast sanctuary of rare wildlife, ancient rainforests, and exclusive jungle adventures.

Established in 1984, Tabin Wildlife Reserve was created to protect some of Borneo’s most endangered species and preserve one of the island’s last lowland dipterocarp forests. Covering over 120,000 hectares in eastern Sabah, Tabin became a critical refuge for wildlife displaced by agricultural expansion, particularly Bornean pygmy elephants, Sumatran rhinoceroses, orangutans, and clouded leopards. Unlike national parks, Tabin was designated as a wildlife reserve to allow for habitat protection alongside controlled research and conservation efforts. Over the decades, it has evolved into a leading destination for eco-luxury travel, offering curated experiences that blend adventurous exploration with a deep respect for the rainforest’s delicate ecosystems.
