LASHIO TRAVEL GUIDE
Lashio is the commercial hub and largest city in Northern Shan State and situated along the old Burma Road that extends from Muse/Ruili border to Mandalay.
What makes Lashio special, and in our opinion one of the destinations not to be missed in Myanmar, is the stunning landscape and nature around the region, as well as the diverse ethnic minorities that inhabit the region. Recently, Lashio has also begun to earn a reputation as Myanmar’s top adventure destination.
Travelling here is still adventurous you won’t find all in guide books, yet, and special permits are required for travel out of the city which we will obtain on behalf of our travelers.
We organize trekking tours from Lashio to Palaung, Lisa, Lahu and Wa minorities villages.
Lashio is also excellent base for easy and challenging mountain biking and cycling tour tours.
Other activities available here include paddle boarding along creeks and lakes, exploring limestone caves and swimming and jumping amazing waterfalls. At some of the waterfalls, you can even swim into hidden caves behind the falls.
Scooter and motorbike adventures are also available starting from Mandalay or just doing 1-2 days trips from Lashio into the surrounding countryside.
By Plane: Daily flights depart from Yangon to Lashio. There are also infrequent flights from Heho (Inle Lake) to Lashio.
By Bus: Lashio can be reached by overnight bus from Mandalay, Inle Lake and Yangon.
By Train: There is a train available from Mandalay to Lashio. However, the journey is extremely slow and tedious and we do not recommend taking the train the entire journey. Another option is to hop on the train at Hsipaw and riding what is considered to be one of the most picturesque sections of the journey to Lashio.
