Where Colonial Charm Meets Riverside Serenity

KAMPOT TOURS & HIGHLIGHTS

Nestled between the Elephant Mountains and the Gulf of Thailand, Kampot is a charming riverside town that captivates with its colonial architecture, laid-back ambiance, and lush countryside. Famed for its world-renowned Kampot pepper and scenic river cruises, the town offers an elegant escape into Cambodia’s rural soul. Visitors can explore salt fields and pepper plantations, kayak along tranquil waterways, or venture to the nearby Bokor National Park for misty mountain views and hidden temples. Kampot blends rustic authenticity with boutique comforts, making it an ideal base for slow-paced exploration and culturally rich luxury travel.

Kampot whispers of a slower time — where rivers glide, pepper blooms, and colonial charm meets the soul of Cambodia’s countryside.

A brief history of Kampot reveals a rich tapestry woven from Cambodia’s colonial past and its strategic riverside location. Once a flourishing port under French Indochina, Kampot served as a vital gateway for regional trade before being overshadowed by Sihanoukville in the 1950s. The town’s architecture still reflects its colonial legacy, with pastel-hued shophouses, faded villas, and French-era bridges. Kampot is also famed for its world-class pepper, cultivated since the 13th century and prized internationally. Despite enduring years of conflict during the Khmer Rouge era, Kampot has gracefully reemerged as a peaceful haven where history, culture, and natural beauty converge.

Kampot is easily reached from Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville by road. A comfortable private transfer or van from Phnom Penh takes approximately 2.5 hours along a scenic route by the coast. From Sihanoukville, it’s about a 1.5-hour drive, perfect for a relaxed arrival. While there’s no airport, private helicopter transfers can be arranged for an exclusive arrival. Though less common, buses and shared minivans also serve both cities if you’re looking for a more budget-friendly option.

Exploring Kampot is best done at a leisurely pace. The town center is compact and ideal for walking or cycling, with many attractions such as colonial buildings, cafés, and the riverside promenade easily accessible on foot. For excursions to Bokor National Park, pepper plantations, salt fields, or caves, hiring a private car with a driver or joining a boutique guided tour is recommended—both offer flexibility and comfort. Tuk-tuks are also readily available for short trips within town and provide authentic local transportation.
