Okura Prestige to Open in Yangon

Japans Okura Hotels & Resorts has announced that will open a luxury Okura Prestige Hotel in Yangon. The hotel is scheduled to be opened by 2020 and will be the Japanese hotel group’s first property in Myanmar. The property will feature 390 rooms and be built on the site of the former Defense Services Museum on Shwedagon Pagoda Road, a short distance from both the namesake Shwedagon Pagoda and Yangon’s downtown commercial center. The project is part of a larger commercial complex that will also be comprised of retail space and office buildings. In a statement, the President of Hotel Okura Co described the group’s aspiration to bring “traditional Japanese hospitality” to Myanmar and plans to “add three to five more hotels in Myanmar in the next five years”.
