Awei pila – New Luxury Island Resort in the Mergui Archipelago

mergui-archipelago-myanmar-travelThe Awei Pila is a brand new 26-room ‘eco chic luxury beachfront resort’, opening in the fall of 2018. The resort is located on the island of Pila in the Mergui Archipelago, in Southern Myanmar. The archipelago is comprised of hundreds of islands with unspoilt beaches, forests and coral reefs. The resort is located on the northernmost part of Pila Island, on a secluded bay beach surrounded by virgin forest and stunning views of the Andaman Sea. The natural bay embraces a 600m long beach front and beyond it a highly forested area ensures protection from the elements and creates further sense of seclusion.

Two types of guest rooms will be available with either sea views of views of the primal forests surrounding the property. The rooms are designed with light weight insulated timber and fabric structures combined with traditional Myanmar construction techniques, to ensure low environmental impact and create a sense of adventure and exploration. All room interiors are designed to maximize natural lighting and offer the best views of the surroundings using large floor to ceiling openings and windows. Locally sourced furniture and decoration further enhances the character of the rooms.

Facilities at the Awei Pila include an onsite restaurant, bar and swimming pool. Both the restaurant and bar offer open views to the sea and overlook the swimming pool. Acivities available in and around the property include diving, snorkeling, kayaking, hiking, cooking classes, fishing, visiting traditional Moken villages

To reach Awei Pila, guests have to travel to the port town of Kawthaung, gateway to the Mergui Archipelago (flights from Yangon and Bangkok. Check in will commence at Kawthaung and then guests will be transferred to the resort by sailing boat (travel time 1.5 hours).
