The tourist entrance fee to the ancient temple site of Bagan will increase from the current US$15 to US$20 on January 1st 2015, according to an official from the Ministry of Culture. The fee has seen two price hikes in the past two years, from $US10 in 2012 to $US15 in 2013. The price hike is intended to generate more income for the funding of the preservation and protection of Bagan. Bagan is an ancient city located in the Mandalay region of Myanmar. Over two thousand ancient temples and pagodas still stand on the site of the city making it one of the most iconic and popular tourist destinations in Myanmar.
