Tropical southern Myanmar is currently the hottest emerging destinations in Southeast Asia. In the past few years, the Mergui Archipelago of 800 islands has become more accessible to visitors and the first resorts are beginning to open up. The Archipelago has potential to become the next Maldives once quality accommodations begin operating on its pristine islands. The crystal clear warm waters and deserted white sand beaches and jungle covered islands are true nature’s paradise, conditions that are becoming increasingly rare in the region.
In addition to mid-market sailing yachts Mergui (Myeik) Archipelago has become a new destination for ultra-luxury yachts like Dunia Baru, Lamima and Silolona which you can book through Discovery VIP travel.
The New Wa Ale Tented Camp luxury resort (Pictured) will be opening in Dec 2017 and it will be first quality accommodation in the archipelago. The resort is situated on Lampi Island which has been declared the first marine national park area in Myanmar.
How to get there?
The archipelago has been traditionally been visited on multiday liveaboard diving and sailing cruises. But during last two years day boat trips are now also possible starting from Myeik and Kawthaung. Myeik and Kawthaung can be reached by domestic flight from Yangon. Kawthaung can also be reached by border crossing from Thailand and is in close proximity to Phuket.
