According to a recent statement by the tourism promotion organization, Myanmar Tourism Marketing (MTM), international hotel investments in Myanmar continues to surge, as most of the countries tourism potential remains untapped. Since the newly elected government took over in 2015, 144 hotels have received licenses to operate in the country. These include hotels owned or managed by Accor, Hilton and Kempinski. Upcoming international hotel projects include the first outpost from South Korea’s, Lotte Hotels, a 343 roomed hotel situated next to Yangon’s Inya Lake. New hotels from US based GCP Hospitality and Singapore’s Pan Pacific Hotels, are also expected to open later this year.
France’s Accor group has demonstrated confidence in Myanmar’s hospitality industry by announcing plans to open five new properties in the country by 2019 including Pullman Hotels in both Yangon and Mandalay. The hotel group already operates three hotels in the country include Novotel branded hotels in Yangon and at Inle Lake.
