Bangkok to Myeik Direct Flight Launched

Bangkok based airline New Gen Airways has launched direct flights from Don Mueng Airport in the Thai capital Bangkok, to the picturesque coastal town of Myeik. The new route will be served three times a week with airfares starting from US$180 return.

The new route has been launched in partnership with local Myanmar partner Tun Htaik Tin Company. In a statement made by the airline, they believe in the strong tourism potential of Myeik as gateway to the islands off the Andaman coast and want to support the development of the region.

Myeik is a coastal city situated in the Tanintharyi region, in southern Myanmar. It’s a charming and picturesque town right on the shore and it serves as an excellent base for excursions to the famed Mergui Archipelago. With tourism steadily growing in Southern Myanmar, local operators are beginning to offer a wider variety of trips from Myeik to the archipelago. Trips can range from one day visits to nearby islands for snorkeling and visiting fishing villages or longer multiday excursions further into the archipelago. A typical two day trip of island hopping in the Mergui Archipelago would comprise of activities like kayaking, snorkeling, and hiking on the islands. For accommodation there is the option of live aboard or possibly camping on some of the archipelagos islands.
