Here at Discovery DMC we would like to highlight new destination where we have been working recently on developing adventure travel activities. As tourism in Myanmar grows, travelers are expanding their horizons and seeking out new and exciting destinations across the country. One such destination is Lashio, the largest town in northern Shan State. The town is about 200 kilometers (120 mi) northeast of Mandalay, situated on a low mountain spur overlooking the valley of the Nam Yaoriver. It can be reached by plane or bus from both Yangon and Mandalay. There is also the option of a very scenic train journey from nearby Hsipaw.
Lashio countryside offers some stunning limestone mountains scenery, caves for exploring, trails for cycling and trekking to tribal villages. Particularly Palaung, Lisu, Lahu and Wa villages are interesting to visit where ladies still wear their decorative traditional dresses.
In the town itself visitors can experience the colorful morning markets where villagers and members of the surrounding hill tribes buy and sell their goods. Given the towns geographical location near the Chinese border and substantial Chinese population, several interesting pagodas including the Mansu and YanTineAung pagodas, are found in the area which feature significant Chinese influences .
The beautiful jungled hills around the town also offer great opportunities for hiking and exploring villages, waterfalls, cave formations etc. Motorbike tours and mountain bike rentals are also now on offer for adventure-seeking travelers.
Perhaps the most amazing natural wonders here are the waterfalls of the region. There are several locations where after a short jungle walk you will arrive for beautiful waterfall perfect for a cooling swim and cliff jumping if you dare!
Here at Discovery DMC we have developed a variety of adventure tours that take full advantage of the spectacular environments in Lashio. For more information about our tours to Lashio and other exciting new destinations in Myanmar, please do not hesitate to contact us.
