New Yangon International airport terminal T1 was opened by outgoing president U Thein Sein 12th March 2016. When complete the airport will have capacity to handle up to 20mil travelers a year. Myanmar National Airlines was first airline to move its flights to the new building terminal 1. The current international flights terminal where most flights depart and arrive will be name T2.
plans are being drawn up for an “airport city” comprising a cultural centre, hotels, commercial and retail space.

Currently 88 percent of flights to Myanmar arrive to Yangon. The airport arrival figures are up from 2010 1.99mil to 2015 4.7 mil. 28 international airlines fly currently to Yangon and new comers are queuing up: Emirates Airlines will start daily flights from Dubai to Yangon in August 2016 and Hong Kong Express Airlines is due to start its flights from Hong Kong to Yangon last quarter of this year.
