In order to encourage further tourism growth in Myanmar, a new e-visa service has been launched to ease entry into the country. The new service can be found online at http://evisa.moip.gov.mm/. A single-entry e-visa costs US$50, will be stamped on arrival and is valid for 28 days. A color passport sized photo and details for a return ticket need to be provided during the application process. Once the application is complete, an acknowledgment email with a reference code is sent to the applicant. The application should take approximately five days to process after which an approval letter is sent to the applicant. However, the e-visa only grants entry to tourists arriving through Yangon International Airport, so the service is not available to those entering the country through land border crossings or through other airports such as Mandalay. In addition, the service is only open to tourists from 43 countries (http://evisa.moip.gov.mm/NoticetoTourists.aspx), but the government has assured that the list will eventually be extended.
