EL NIDO

Gateway to Palawan’s Pristine Island Paradise

EL NIDO Travel Guide

Tucked away in northern Palawan, El Nido is a luxurious gateway to one of the world’s most breathtaking island archipelagos. With its dramatic limestone cliffs, secret lagoons, and powdery white-sand beaches lapped by emerald waters, El Nido offers the perfect blend of natural wonder and upscale indulgence. Here, travelers can explore the pristine Bacuit Bay aboard private yachts, snorkel in vibrant coral gardens, and unwind at secluded eco-resorts that blend seamlessly with their surroundings. For those seeking barefoot luxury in a setting that feels utterly untouched, El Nido is the ultimate tropical escape.

El Nido is where raw beauty meets refined luxury — a place where turquoise lagoons, secret beaches, and towering limestone cliffs create a paradise made for the discerning explorer.

El Nido’s history stretches back thousands of years, with archaeological findings revealing human presence as early as 22,000 years ago in the Ille Cave of Dewil Valley. The area was once inhabited by the Tagbanwa people, one of the oldest ethnic groups in the Philippines, who still maintain a strong cultural presence today. During the Spanish colonial period, the area was called Bacuit, but was renamed El Nido (meaning “The Nest”) in the 1950s, in reference to the edible nests of swiftlets found in the limestone cliffs — a prized delicacy and export. Over time, El Nido evolved from a quiet fishing village into a world-renowned eco-tourism and luxury travel destination, celebrated for its protected marine parks, extraordinary biodiversity, and unspoiled natural landscapes.
