Hidden beneath the warm tropical waters of Southeast Asia lies the most biologically rich marine ecosystem on Earth. Known as the Coral Triangle, this extraordinary region represents the global epicenter of marine biodiversity — a distinction unmatched anywhere else on the planet.
Stretching across Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and Timor-Leste, the Coral Triangle contains over 600 species of reef-building corals and more than 2,000 species of reef fish. This represents approximately 76% of all coral species worldwide.
By comparison, the Caribbean contains fewer than 70 coral species, and even world-renowned destinations such as the Maldives and Seychelles possess significantly lower biodiversity density.
