In February, Discovery DMC teamed up with Carlsberg Myanmar to organize a team building trip for the company’s local management team. Over fifty members of the company’s staff journeyed the Shan hills for an action packed trip including trekking and boat races.
The trip began with a journey in a convoy of local “tuktuk’s” into the heart of rural Shan state, a landscape of rolling hills and rice terraces, a timeless setting of peaceful villages, smiling children and rickety ox carts. After stopping for home cooked village lunch, the group set off on a trekking and orienteering challenge where teams would have to find their own way across the picturesque hilly landscapes to a small village for an overnight stay.
Once, all the teams had successfully arrived at the village before nightfall, they were instructed to prepare their own meals for dinner using typical village equipment and ingredients. An evening of laughter, music and dancing followed with everyone situated around the warmth of a camp fire under a stunning starry night sky.
In the early hours of the next morning the trekking continued to banks of the beautiful Inle Lake. After recovering from the challenging but rewarding trek with a breakfast of Shan noodles and dumplings, the teams headed off onto the lake. At the lake the teams took part in a traditional leg rowing boat race along with over a hundred local villagers, an unforgettable moment (see video). Home cooked lunch was then served in a traditional stilted lake house. Teams then journeyed by speed boat to their hotel in the regional hub of Nyaung Shwe for an evening of celebration accompanied by traditional Shan performances by a local dance troupe.
